Halloween

We had a lot of fun today at a Trunk or Treat put on my various members of our church. Joseph did wonderfully. He was adorable!!! I can't believe how much candy we handed out today! Here are some pictures of our adorable boy :) In case you can't see it his shirt says "Hand over the candy and nobody gets hurt".

8 month pictures and updates

The past few weeks have been tough here, but we are muddling through. Matt got a really bad cold right before his midterms. He was able to get over the worst of it by the time he started into the first of his law school exams, but unfortunately Joseph and I came down with it. Then somehow, we still don't know how, but Joseph got conjunctivitis (pink eye). He also has a possible sinus infection. He is on an antibiotic twice a day and is recovering. On a positive note we can't believe how fast Joseph is growing. He is not only becoming a fast crawler, but is now pulling himself up to a stand. In fact, he is only interested in standing. We are excited for Halloween. Joseph is going to be a lion, and I'll be sure to post pictures. After Monday Matt will start breathing again, and he may even have days shorter than 13 hours.

Here are some 8 month pictures of Joseph :)

Sorry delayed health update

I realized it had been a week since Joseph's appointment and I never updated our blog. The appointment went well, I really liked the people up at Children's Memorial. The specialist agreed with everything that had been done at Primary Childrens, which is always good to hear. She said the time had come to get the genetic test done to see if Joseph has frustosemia. The problem is that our insurance doesn't want to pay for it and it is really expensive. We are currently battling them and hope to hear something soon. The doctor's office has been great and is really working with us to get this test done. He has a follow-up appointment in November where we will test his blood work to see if his liver enzymes are normal.

My family and I had some sad news yesterday. Monday night my uncle passed away after a long battle with Lou Gehrig's Disease. Steve wanted to make it to his youngest daughter's wedding, and he did. She was married last Saturday, and Steve made it to the ceremony. I am always amazed how much the will to live can make a difference. I cannot remember a time when Steve wasn't smiling and making people laugh, even throughout his disease. We will miss him a lot, and our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and his children. We all lost a great man, but I am glad he is in a place where his disease can no longer hurt him.

Health Update and other stuff

I have had a few people ask about Joseph's health so I though I should give an update. There isn't too much that has happened since my last post. I finally was able to get some answers regarding his blood work. Although his enzymes are still elevated Dr Book (liver specialist at Primary Childrens in Salt Lake) is so happy that they have dropped that far. She said I could start him on his rice cereal again. So Joseph is having a little bit of sugar once a day in his rice and oatmeal cereal, and he seems to be handling it alright. His next appointment is on Tuesday with Dr Alonso (liver specialist at Children's Memorial in Chicago). I am trying to convince someone to do his blood work again so we will have recent results for his appointment. It would suck to drive all the way up there and have the doctor say there isn't anything she can do with month old blood work. We appreciate everyone's thoughts and prayers throughout this whole experience.

In other news we went with my parents to Lincoln Park Zoo on Labor Day. It was a lot of fun, and it wore Joseph out. He wouldn't fall asleep in his stroller so he was a tired boy. If you are lucky, one of these days I'll post some pictures. Joseph is also now mobile. I turn my back on him for 2 seconds and he seems to find the something to get into. Matt is doing well at law school. His classes are starting to go ahead full steam and soon Matt will be completely buried in his law books instead of just being in neck deep. He is also looking into various IP law societies to join, which means he will be more busy but it is good connections.

I think that is about it for updates here in the Divelbiss house. I'm sorry to anyone that found me making our blog private inconvenient, but I looked at our stats and found out that someone in Germany is viewing our blog. I'm not too sure I'm ok with that. I feel much more comfortable controlling who can look at pictures of my family.

Another Update

I really have no idea what to title these blog entries.
Not too much is happening here in the Divelbiss household. Matt has started law school and is loving it. He comes home and always has a new case study to share. Right now I'm staying home with Joseph and doing the mommy thing :) He is getting a little more efficient at scooting... but only when he really wants something out of reach. We recently got his blood work done again. He liver enzymes are still elevated and that worries us. They are not nearly as elevated as they were a few months ago, but they are still not normal yet. What no one can answer for us is that with all the problems he had with his liver... will his levels ever be normal? We keep getting this blood test done but no one can seem to tell me what we are aiming for other than lower. I still can't start him on baby food (because of the sugar) and the problems it might cause for his liver. We have an appointment on the 14th up at Children's Memorial Hospital, so please keep us in your prayers.
